I have never been a big fan of having certificates on the wall. However, I have recently been reflecting on the importance of providing enough information for people to make informed decisions in their therapeutic journey.

Working life

During my undergraduate degree I worked in the disability sector, for which I will always be grateful. I learned from the people I worked with about the importance of promoting dignity in a world which can sometimes forget.

During my masters degree I worked with young mothers experiencing homelessness in Darwin. After graduating, I began as a Research Officer at Menzies School of Health Research in Alice Springs. Our projects promoted cultural safety and trauma-informed practice within family services. From this, came my one and only academic publication. This evaluation of a trauma-informed counselling service taught me that my passion for therapy far outweighs my passion for research and policy.

I began my therapist journey as a school counsellor in Darwin, followed by being a Lead Clinician at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Bendigo. On moving to Melbourne, I held a role as a Senior Clinician at eheadspace then Allied Health Professional (counsellor) at the headspace centre in Collingwood. I began my private practice in 2018.

The autonomy of private practice has allowed me to develop, and lean into, my own approach to psychotherapy, including integration of Sensorimotor Art Therapy and Hakomi. My earlier work with young people and families underpins my understanding of clients’ childhood experiences. Having started my career in the Northern Territory, a complex environment, I have long been interested in the impacts of intergenerational trauma and the ways in which the personal is political, and the political is personal.

In 2020 I established a shared therapy space in Northcote, Inside This River: Somatic and Art Therapies in order to work alongside people with similar values. This clinic takes it’s name from my favourite Rumi poem. After a limping start through the 2021 lockdown, we now have a thriving group of practitioners providing a range of therapy styles. I provide individual sessions and group workshops from this space.
